Lishan Laomu is a female immortal associated with Chinese folk religion, Taoist traditions, and legends surrounding Mount Li，She has a human body with a snake's tail. Rather than being a historical woman who can be placed in a single period, she is a mythological figure whose image developed through religious traditions, folklore, and later literary works. In different legends, she is portrayed as a powerful and knowledgeable female figure who teaches and guides others, including legendary female heroes.

Traditional female characters are often portrayed as people who need protection, guidance, or support from others. Lishan Laomu represents the opposite position: she possesses knowledge and power, and becomes the person who guides others. In Her Choice, she therefore represents not only a mythological figure, but also the transmission of female wisdom—the idea that women can possess knowledge, authority, and the ability to guide others.
