Bao Gu
她是谁？ | Who Was She?
鲍姑是东晋时期的女性医者和道教人物，约生活于4世纪。她出生于一个与医学和道教有关的家庭，自幼接触医学知识，后来与著名医药学家葛洪结为夫妻。她尤其擅长艾灸，并长期行医、采药，为当地百姓治疗疾病。她被后世视为中国医学史上重要的女性灸法医者。
Bao Gu was a female physician and Taoist practitioner who lived during the Eastern Jin period, around the fourth century. She grew up in a family connected to medicine and Taoist traditions and was exposed to medical knowledge from a young age. She later married the famous physician and alchemist Ge Hong. Bao Gu became particularly known for her expertise in moxibustion and spent much of her life practising medicine and collecting herbs to treat local people.

鲍姑最重要的地方，是她拥有属于自己的专业知识。她当然是葛洪的妻子，但如果只用“葛洪的妻子”来介绍她，就会忽略她自己的医学贡献。她拥有自己的医学实践，并因艾灸技术而被后世记住。她提醒我们：女性的身份不应该只由家庭关系定义。一个女人可以同时拥有自己的知识、职业、兴趣和专业能力。
What makes Bao Gu significant is that she developed expertise of her own. She was certainly Ge Hong’s wife, but defining her only through that relationship would overlook her contribution to medicine. She developed her own medical practice and became known for her expertise in moxibustion. Her story reminds us that a woman’s identity should not be defined only through family relationships. A woman can have her own knowledge, profession, interests, and expertise.
