黄道婆是元代著名的棉纺织技术革新者。她早年生活经历较为艰苦，后来前往海南，在当地学习纺织技术。回到松江后，她将自己学到的技术传播给当地人，并改进纺织工具和生产方式，提高了棉纺织生产效率。她的贡献推动了松江棉纺织业的发展。
Huang Daopo was a major textile innovator of the Yuan Dynasty. After a difficult early life, she travelled to Hainan, where she learned local spinning and weaving techniques. When she later returned to Songjiang, she shared what she had learned, improved textile tools and production methods, and helped increase the efficiency of cotton production. Her work contributed greatly to the development of the Songjiang textile industry.

纺织经常被视为传统女性应该承担的家庭劳动，因此很容易被忽视为“普通的女性工作”。但黄道婆改变了这一点。她不仅参与纺织，而是研究技术、改进工具、解决生产问题，并把知识传授给其他人。她让原本被认为属于家庭内部的女性劳动，变成了技术创新和社会生产力。
Textile work was often viewed as ordinary domestic labour associated with women. Huang Daopo transformed this perception. She did not simply practise textile work—she studied techniques, improved tools, solved production problems, and taught others. Her story shows how knowledge and innovation can emerge from forms of labour that are often overlooked or undervalued because they are associated with women.
